Mark has raced in many different sporting events since he was a junior, he actually finished 3rd overall at the British Junior triathlon championships in 1984. He competes throughout the year in many different sporting events to maintain his triathlon racing level; this includes time trialing, road running, marathon running & fell running.
Mark has coached many athletes: this includes, beginners looking to achieve their first Ironman finishes; he actually coached a married couple to reach their goal of finishing Ironman Lanzarote. They both finished, with one of them qualifying to race at Kona at her first attempt at the Ironman. Mark has also coached experienced Ironman athletes who are looking to improve on previous Ironman results.
Mark has worked a 48 hour a week shift system for 16 years, this includes working nights. He has still managed to race at a very high level. He understands the difficulties in training for endurance events, whilst still holding down a full time job, and finding time to spend with family and friends. He believes athletes with a proper structured training plan, which is tailored to their lifestyle, can still achieve fantastic results.
Mark has built up a massive amount of experience over the years. He has tried many different training techniques, some good, and some he would rather not experience again. He’s learned what works and wants to pass on his vast experience to other athletes.
Mark is still very passionate about his sport, and is competing at a very high level to this day. Mark’s still improving, and at 38 years old; it shows he is putting into practice all the learning along the way!
